Speak to Local Organizations:
"When
I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision,
then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." — Audre
Lorde
If you are in your first year or two of practice, and your business
isn't building as fast as you would like it to, invest some time in
getting the word out about the wonderful benefits of bodywork.
Use any contacts you can to get on the
speaker list at local community groups. Try garden clubs, community
organizations like Rotary Club, women's church groups, health clubs,
senior centers, schools or any others kinds of groups you can think
of.
The whole city can be your oyster. For those of you
who practice clinical or medical massage, try hospital lunch-time engagements,
groups of social workers or nurses (who always need continuing ed credits),
chiropractic offices and community colleges. If you want to emphasize
relaxation or sports massage, contact fitness centers, health clubs,
yoga studios, wellness programs in corporate offices, and local running,
climbing or other sports clubs.
Your best selling point is a demonstration of what you offer. Make sure you bring a portable massage chair or table to your presentations.
Include plenty of extra time to give hands-on demonstrations to anyone
who's interested.
Take the stress out of making presentations by using Cherie Sohnen-Moe's Present
Yourself Powerfully or one of our Natural Touch Marketing Presentation
Planning Kits.
These and other resources can do the work for you. All you have to
do is make the phone calls, hand out the business cards and brochures,
and tell (and show!) the folks you meet about what you have to offer,
the wonderful gift of bodywork.
