July/Aug/Sept: Upgrade Your Skills and Update Your Clients
"Now I know, a refuge never grows
From a chin in the hand and a thoughtful pose
Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose."
—Indigo Girls
Summer is here, and your business may be perking along, or it may be
slow with clients busy with children or away on vacation. Great! Now
you have time to renew your energy and gear up for the busy fall season.
Consider trying something new or different. For instance, learn a different
modality, or prepare for a new postcard promotional.
This is a perfect time to get those
continuing education hours. You
now have so many courses and instructors to choose from! Maybe you
live in a city that offers many evening and weekend courses in new
modalities or business development.
And if you don’t, you can
now get educated on the web, wherever you are. Home-study courses range
from marketing to advanced physical techniques complete with video
or DVD instruction.
When you complete your course, plan to contact clients, introducing
them to what you’ve learned.
Get ready for your busy fall and winter. This
month, put some energy into reestablishing a good base of networking
and referral relationships. Send out letters or postcards thanking referring
practitioners or anyone at all who has helped you in the past year.
Then update your client mailing list. Add new clients, and choose “sleeper clients” to
include in your holiday promotional.
The weather may be nice, but think “winter is coming.” Take
some time to think about a theme in your holiday greeting cards and
gift certificates that represents you. After all, more people than ever
are looking for meaningful, healthful ways to gift loved ones. So prepare
to catch their eyes with a beautiful promotional in October or November.
Your mailing list should be ready, so you can sign, address and stamp
cards anytime and have them ready. And now is the time to begin collecting
what you need for a display at your workplace, and to consider joint
marketing with other businesses for the holidays.
