"Marketing
is about building relationships, so I go out of my office
to meet people. I participated in a grand opening with the
other businesses in my new location, and met a lot of people.
I also gave massage to all the baristas at the espresso stand
in my building who now hand out my business cards." — Read

"I
believe the path of the healer fulfills an important
role in our society. When we are caring and compassionate,
we help the world become a better place one body
at a time." — Read

"I had
my first massage ever on my honeymoon. It was the most
amazing experience of my life. I walked out into a blustery
day, but felt warm and peaceful and wrapped up in a lovely
cocoon. I thought, 'If I could spend my life making other
people feel this much better about their lives, that
would be a career worth giving my life to.'" — Read

"I
ask my students: Who do you want to work with? The usual
answer is, 'Everybody.' You need to think about this.
You can't work with 'everybody.' And I don't think you'd
want to work with everybody. That would be spreading yourself
too thin and you'd end up running a pretty inefficient
practice. You need to figure it out, you need to 'target'
who you're going to concentrate on." — Read

"The key to all marketing
is to be yourself. I know I’m pretty bold and some things I do are
not for everyone. But everyone can be kind and smile — and a smile
goes very far. A good friend of mine once told me, 'Keep
doing what you do. Do it right with honesty and integrity
and you will succeed.'" — Read

"The driving challenge for
my business in Sitka, AK, is a population of 9000 with
19 bodyworkers. While the number of potential customers
is fixed, the number of bodyworkers has probably doubled
since I opened my studio. Finding a way to get people
to come to me has taken and continues to take creativity
and persistence." — Read
