You’re going to see some entries that have an asterisk (*) in the title. That tells you I recently had a fabulous, extraordinary flight of marketing fancy. And it probably happened in the shower.
Are my Shower Thoughts well thought-out and ready for you to plug directly into your marketing plan? Heck, no! I’d be surprised if any of them would suit you as-is (though I’d love to hear about it if any of them are).
BUT …
There is something thrilling to me about a raw idea thumping around in the brain. They are huge and sweeping and I can clearly see how a small part of some vast, untamed idea could capture your imagination and help to make your business better, more profitable, more satisfying, and … just “more,” I guess.
Now, since business blogs are supposed to be informative and/or educational, I should be giving you something to apply to your marketing plan. I can’t very well tell you how to shower, but I do encourage you to actively put yourself in the way of inspiration.
Inspiration is such a personal event. It’s the sum total of everything that makes you, you.
Listen to what you have to say to yourself. So what if your first ideas are outrageous? So what if your first thoughts are larger than life? It’s far easier to make a vast idea manageable than to make a tiny idea large enough to be noticed.
Pay attention to where you are and what you are doing when the ideas come. Put yourself there as often as you can. (Hey, I shower every day.) Then you need to find a way to retain the idea. This can get tricky. I generally jump out of the shower and speed dial in to work. I need to say ideas out loud right away to someone. Anyone. It’s a real show when I have house guests.
Write your inspirations down, record them, talk them over with your dog. It doesn’t matter. If you have a thought thrilling enough to stop you in your tracks, you have a thought worth keeping.
All my best,
Eileen
Forecast: Check back in a couple days. I’m working on an entry on how to break down someone else’s compelling message and make it work for reaching out to your clients. There will be at least one concrete example. Promise.
