I think most Massage Therapists feel that it is being pushy and an imposition on their clients to "keep" mailing them. But you are right, Eileen, we need to "get our message out there".

Especially poignant is your shocking story of the husband who bought snowboots when he could have got his wife a massage certificate (as well?).

You and a zillion others, Melonie. It is hard for a lot of people to put themselves forward. Try viewing your marketing as an extension of your customer service.

If, when talking to clients or potential clients, you tell them what you do with their information, then you are being up front and honest. "I do a mailing when I learn new techniques, when I'm doing a special and when I find an article that I feel would be useful to YOU. Is it okay to share that sort of stuff with you?" Your clients will then have the option to refuse information like that from you.

If it makes you more comfortable, check in when they come in for work. "Did you get my last mailing? What did you think? Can I keep you on my list?"

And relating to all this, check out:

and

The more you focus your messages, the more likely your recipients WANT to hear what you have to say.

Let me know if you try it and how it works for YOU and your practice.

Thanks for the reminder. I tend to be like your friend and struggle with any kind of marketing. This was very helpful to me. Thank you!
